Australian pace spearhead Pat Cummins etched his name in cricket history on Saturday (June 22), becoming the first bowler ever to claim consecutive hat-tricks in T20 Internationals. This remarkable feat unfolded during Match 48 of the ongoing 2024 ICC T20 World Cup against Afghanistan in Kingstown, St Vincent.
Despite Cummins’ stellar bowling performance (3/28), Australia fell short by 21 runs while chasing Afghanistan’s modest total of 148/6.
Stellar spell of fast bowling from Pat Cummins
Cummins’ historic hat-trick spree began in the 18th over. He induced a miscue from the dangerous Afghan skipper Rashid Khan who departed on the final delivery.
The drama continued in the 20th over. Cummins struck with the very first ball, dismissing Karim Janat. With the crowd buzzing and history beckoning, Cummins delivered a beauty, trapping Gulbadin Naib on the very next delivery to complete the hat-trick.
