Former South Africa batter Hashim Amla has made his predictions for the finalists of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Semifinal showdowns

On June 26, local time, South Africa and Afghanistan will face off at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, vying for a spot in the ultimate match of the tournament. Afghanistan finished the Super 8 stage in second place in Group 1 and will compete against South Africa, the leaders of Group 2.

In another semifinal clash, India, who topped Group 1, will take on the defending champions England at Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27.

Hashim Amla’s predictions and insights

Ahead of these knockout matches, Amla has forecasted that South Africa will face India in the final and expressed his hope that the Proteas will finally end their T20 World Cup drought this year.

Responding to a question about the potential winner of the tournament, he confidently said, “We can win our first World Cup this year.”

When asked about Afghanistan, Amla acknowledged their impressive performance, stating that the Afghan side has played very good cricket till now.

Afghanistan, led by Rashid Khan, made a remarkable comeback in the Super 8 stage after suffering a defeat against India in their first game. They stunned Australia in their second match of the Super 8 round and then secured a thrilling win over Bangladesh to earn a spot in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, both India and South Africa remain unbeaten in the tournament. Rohit Sharma’s Team India won six out of their seven games, with one fixture being washed out in the group stage. South Africa, on the other hand, set a new record by becoming the first team to secure seven consecutive victories in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.

As the semifinals approach, all eyes will be on these formidable teams, with cricket fans eagerly anticipating the high-stakes matches that will determine the finalists of the T20 World Cup 2024.
