Batters around the globe are currently demonstrating their dominance in white-ball cricket with remarkable consistency and explosive batting prowess. In every cricket team, the role of a high-caliber middle-order batter is recognized as crucial, capable of influencing the outcome of matches with aggressive stroke play and game-changing performances. These players not only stabilize innings during critical phases but also possess the ability to accelerate the run rate rapidly, often turning matches in favour of their teams.
The premier best white ball middle-order batter
Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith has bestowed high praise on Heinrich Klaasen, dubbing him “the best middle-order white-ball batter in the world” following his exceptional performances across international and franchise cricket in recent years. Klaasen has been pivotal in South Africa’s middle order alongside David Miller, making significant contributions in both ODI and T20 formats since the start of 2022.
In ODI cricket, Klaasen has amassed over 1,000 runs at an impressive average of 46.25 and a striking rate of 131.82, including three centuries. In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, Klaasen continues to play a crucial role, scoring 46 runs off 44 balls against Bangladesh and contributing 36 runs off 22 balls in South Africa’s first Super Eight fixture against the USA. In this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) also, Klaasen continued his stellar form, scoring 479 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad at a strike rate of 171.07. Additionally, he finished second in the run-scoring charts for SA20, amassing 447 runs with an astonishing strike rate of 207.9.

Graeme Smith’s analysis
Writing in a column for Betway, Smith described Klaasen as “outstanding” and emphasized his consistency and impact on games. Smith highlighted Klaasen’s ability to excel in T20 cricket, noting the importance of middle-order batter who can change the game with their ability to hit boundaries and maintain high strike rates. Smith further expressed that if he were to invest in players for franchises, Klaasen would be his top choice due to his match-winning capabilities.
“I think Klaasen is the best middle-order white-ball batter in the world. And he’s done it consistently for two years now. In T20 cricket, the guys batting at four, five and six that can hit the ball out of the ground and change the game – that’s where the money is. If I was buying players for franchises, Klaasen’s the type of player I’d want,” Smith wrote in his column for Betway insider.
