Australian cricket superstar Pat Cummins is reportedly set to join the growing list of Aussies competing in the upcoming season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA. This news comes after Cummins led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The right-arm pacer turned the tide for SRH, who finished the 2023 IPL edition at the bottom of the table.
Pat Cummins set to feature in MLC 2024
Cummins will be suiting up for the San Francisco Unicorns, likely taking the captain’s role vacated by the recently retired Aaron Finch. He’ll join fellow countrymen Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk who have already signed for the Unicorns.
This stint in the MLC will cap off a gruelling but triumphant season for Cummins. It began in February with Australia’s tour of New Zealand, and most recently saw him leading SRH to the IPL 2024 final in his debut season as captain. Though Hyderabad lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the summit clash, Cummins’ leadership credentials are undeniable. His achievements with the national team include the World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup wins in 2023, and retaining the Ashes in England with a 2-2 draw last year.

Second season of MCL to begin on July 5
The excitement for MLC continues to build as the league gears up for its second season, kicking off on July 5th, just a week later after the T20 World Cup in the USA. The MLC recently received List-A status from the International Cricket Council (ICC), becoming only the second Associate-run franchise competition to achieve this distinction, following the UAE’s ILT20.
Fans can expect a thrilling opening day with a double-header. Defending champions MI New York will take on runners-up Seattle Orcas, followed by the Texas Super Kings facing off against the LA Knight Riders. The stage is set for another action-packed season of MLC, with the addition of Cummins sure to add another layer of star power and excitement to the league.
