Nitish Kumar Reddy‘s anticipated international debut has been postponed due to an injury, ruling him out of India’s T20I series against Zimbabwe. While the BCCI has not detailed the nature of Reddy’s injury, reports suggest that he is sidelined due to a hernia.

Nitish Reddy’s spectacular numbers in IPL 2024

Reddy’s call-up to the Indian squad came after a standout Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He accumulated 303 runs with a strike rate of 142.92 and also bowled 13.1 overs, taking three wickets. Over the past year, Reddy has been monitored by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as part of the BCCI’s development program for young talents.

Shivam Dube joins the squad

Shivam Dube, currently part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, will replace Reddy. Although Dube’s performance in the ongoing global event has been modest, with 106 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 107.07 and no wickets, he had an excellent IPL 2024 season.

Dube, who typically bats in the middle order, was a key player for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), scoring 396 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 162.29, making him the second-highest run-scorer for CSK behind captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Notably, Team India are set to play five T20Is against Zimbabwe in Harare, starting on July 6. In the absence of senior players, Shubman Gill will captain the squad, which includes newcomers Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande.
