Following the thrilling victory, Saurabh’s sister, Nidhi, took to social media to express her joy and pride in her brother’s remarkable achievement. In a heartfelt post, she shared the emotional celebration that took place within their family and community.
“His win feels personal. I have heard this at least 50 times in the past few hours. It made me realise what a beautiful culture we have. Being the second largest population in the world, you would expect people to be competitive and jealous of each other’s achievements but that’s just one of the ways in which Indian culture surprises the world,” Nidhi wrote on Instagram.
She further detailed the outpouring of support from their close-knit community, highlighting the shared joy and pride in Netravalkar’s success.
“From our house-help who learnt how to make vegan puran poli and karanji to wish him before the tournament to the neighbours who he grew up with came home crying with tears of joy at 1:15 am in the night, it’s not just USA’s historic win against Pakistan, it is the win of each and every person involved in the journeys of the players in the smallest way possible,” she added.

Saurabh’s inspirational journey
Notably, Saurabh’s journey from India to the United States is a testament to his dedication and passion for cricket. A former India U19 player, Netravalkar represented India in the 2010 U19 World Cup before moving to the USA to pursue higher education. He completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Cornell University and subsequently secured a job at Oracle.
Despite his academic and professional commitments, Netravalkar continued to pursue his cricketing dreams, making his debut for the USA in 2019 and even captaining the team. His recent performances in the T20 World Cup have further cemented his status as a key player for the USA.
