The co-hosts of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 USA are taking on India in the 25th match of the exciting tournament. India’s captain Rohit Sharma won the coin toss and decided to field first. Both teams are aiming for a win to secure their spots in the Super 8 stage. With both sides currently unbeaten and having four points each, India is at the top of the group thanks to a higher net run rate.
Monank Patel misses out
As fans anticipated the toss, USA’s top-order batter Aaron Jones joined Rohit instead of usual captain Monank Patel, causing a stir. Monank, who has effectively led the USA thus far, is not participating in today’s game, which is a notable absence.
Reason behind Monank’s absence
Jones, who is leading the team in the absence of Monank, revealed the reason behind his skipper’s absence. Jones said that Monank had a niggle and that’s why he had to miss out today’s game. Jones disclosed that Shayan Jahangir has been included as the replacement of Monank. Further, USA made another change by picking Shadley van Schalkwyk in place of Nosthush Kenjige.
“We would have bowled first as well, there’s some help for the bowlers early. He’s (Monank Patel) having a niggle and should be back quickly. It should be a good game and we’re looking to play well. The camp is very positive, just looking to play some good cricket. Shayan Jahangir replaces Monank and Shadley is in for Nosthush,” said Jones.
