The 24th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 featured a face-off between Australia and Namibia at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. Australia dominated the Group B encounter, securing a comprehensive victory by 9 wickets.

Tim David’s exceptional fielding

While the match showcased outstanding performances, particularly from the Australian bowling unit, it was Tim David’s remarkable fielding that caught everyone’s attention. The highlight came during the 17th over of Namibia’s innings, bowled by Marcus Stoinis.

Stoinis delivered a fuller ball aimed at the batter’s pads. Ben Shikongo edged it towards mid-on. It seemed the ball would fall in an empty spot, but David swiftly moved to his left and executed a diving catch to perfection.

Dominant bowling display by Australia

Australia showcased clinical precision in dismantling Namibia in their first-ever T20I encounter. Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl, with his fast bowlers, even in the absence of Mitchell Starc, quickly putting Namibia under pressure.

Leg spinner Adam Zampa emerged as the star bowler, claiming 4 wickets for just 12 runs, helping to restrict Namibia to a mere 72. Supporting him, Josh Hazlewood (2/18) and Stoinis (2/9) each picked up two wickets.

Australia secures Super 8 spot

The Aussies chased down the target in just 5.4 overs, securing their place in the Super 8s. This loss resulted in Namibia’s elimination from the tournament. David Warner struck four boundaries from just eight deliveries, initiating Australia’s assertive pursuit. Travis Head sustained the momentum by smashing two fours and a six in Shikongo’s third over. Although Erasmus allowed only six runs in the fourth over, Australia pushed to conclude the game within the Power Play. Head then hit three successive fours off Trumpelmann, and Marsh sealed the victory with a series of four, six, and four, with 86 balls remaining.
