In a sensational upset, the United States of America (USA) pulled off a historic victory over Pakistan in the 11th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas.
USA restricts Pakistan for 159
Electing to bowl first, the USA bowlers did well to restrict a star-studded Pakistan batting lineup to a total of 159/7 in their 20 overs. Babar Azam (44 runs) and Shadab Khan (40 runs) were the only Pakistani batsmen to score significantly. Nosthush Kenjige (3/30) and Saurabh Netravalkar (2/18) were the pick of the American bowlers, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals.
USA reaches to 159 in dramatic fashion
Chasing a challenging target of 160 runs, the USA batsmen displayed remarkable composure. Monank Patel (50 runs) and Aaron Jones (36 not out) anchored the chase with valuable contributions. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the USA batters kept chipping away at the target, with contributions from Andries Gous (35 runs) and Nitish Kumar (14 not out) proving crucial.
A nail-biting finish and Super Over
The match went down to the wire as the USA required 14 runs from the final over. They managed to tie the scores on the last ball, sending the crowd into a frenzy. A Super Over was required to determine the winner.
In the Super Over, the USA posted 18 runs on the scoreboard. However, in reply, Pakistan could manage only 13/1 off their six balls.
USA skipper Monank Patel, who impressed with his batting performance, was awarded the Player of the Match.

I have seen Babar Azam play many fine innings. This 44(43) won't be among them. On a decent surface, he looked strangely out of rhythm.
