Co-hosts USA kicked off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in grand style, securing a seven-wicket victory over rivals Canada. Chasing a formidable target of 195, the USA team achieved the third-highest run-chase in T20 World Cup history, and their highest ever in T20Is, with 14 balls to spare.
Aaron Jones’ explosive knock steals the show
Aaron Jones was the star of the match with an unbeaten 40-ball 94, guiding USA to victory. Jones’s innings was a spectacular display of power-hitting, as he smashed 10 sixes and 3 fours. His performance set a new record for the most sixes by a USA player in a T20I, second only to Chris Gayle‘s record in T20 World Cups.
The monumental 103-meter six
A highlight of Jones’s innings was a colossal 103-meter six off Dillon Heyliger. This incredible shot occurred on the fifth ball of the 11th over during USA’s chase. Heyliger delivered a slower off-cutter on a good length, which Jones muscled high over mid-wicket, sending the ball out of the ground.
