The USA and Pakistan faced off in a gripping ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 match at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Thursday. The match extended to a Super Over, where the hosts USA clinched a stunning victory, delivering a surprising defeat to Pakistan. Alongside the thrilling game, an incident featuring Azam Khan caught significant attention.
Azam Khan’s first-ball dismissal
Azam failed to make a mark with the bat, getting dismissed on the very first ball he faced. Left-arm spinner Nosthush Kenjige trapped him leg-before-wicket. After consulting with captain Babar Azam at the other end, Azam opted for the DRS. However, the replays confirmed the ball was heading straight to the stumps.
Confrontation with fans
As he walked back to the pavilion, Azam appeared visibly upset and starred at a spectator in the stands. Although the exact reason for his anger remains unclear, it seemed some fans attempted to mock and body shame him.

Struggles in the international arena
Notably, Azam has faced challenges in his international cricket career. In 14 T20I matches, he has amassed only 88 runs, averaging 8.80. His notable performance, an unbeaten 30, was against Ireland in Dublin in May. Despite his impressive performances for various franchises, including Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Azam has struggled to find success on the international stage.
Game summary
Meanwhile in the match, Pakistan set a target of 160 runs while batting first. The USA matched this total on the final ball of their innings, finishing at 159/3. In the Super Over, the hosts managed to reach 18/1. Pakistan, in response, managed only 13/1, losing the match by five runs.
