While the Ashes series might be some time away, the historic rivalry between England and Australia was reignited during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The two cricketing powerhouses clashed at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, delivering a high-intensity match that captivated fans worldwide. As always, the fierce competition between these two teams led to some heated and memorable moments on the field.
Glenn Maxwell pokes fun at fans with John Cena gesture
One of the standout moments of the match occurred during the 14th over of England’s innings, bowled by Josh Hazlewood. England’s Jonny Bairstow attempted a slog hit but only managed to connect with the toe-end of his bat, sending the ball towards deep mid-wicket.
Glenn Maxwell, positioned in the deep, took a safe catch and then turned to a group of English supporters. In a cheeky celebration, Maxwell performed John Cena‘s iconic ‘you can’t see me’ gesture, mocking the English fans and adding a bit of theatrical flair to the dismissal of Bairstow.

Australia get the better of England
Speaking about the match, Australia, having been asked to bat first, put up an imposing total of 201/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Contributions came from several batters, with Travis Head scoring 34, David Warner adding 39, Mitchell Marsh making 35, and Marcus Stoinis chipping in with 30.
In reply, England could only muster 165/6, falling short by 36 runs. Despite a valiant effort from captain Jos Buttler, who top-scored with 42 off 28 balls, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to build substantial partnerships or chase down the challenging target set by the Australians.
