In a dramatic and emotional end to a tense match, Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah broke down in tears following his team’s narrow defeat to India in the T20 World Cup 2024. The low-scoring Group A encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium saw India edge out Pakistan by six runs, leaving the Pakistani team and its supporters heartbroken.

Pakistan falters in the run chase

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Pakistan managed to restrict India to a modest total of 119. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf spearheaded the bowling attack, each taking three wickets and putting the Pakistani side in a strong position. Rishabh Pant was the standout performer for India, scoring a vital 42 runs.

Chasing 120 for victory, Pakistan’s innings was steady but unspectacular. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with 31 runs, but the team struggled to build momentum. Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah proved to be the game-changer, taking crucial wickets and finishing with figures of 3-14. Pakistan ultimately fell short, ending their innings at 113-7.

Naseem Shah seen in tears

The defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for the Pakistani team, especially for Naseem, who was seen in tears on the field after the match. The young lad, who gave his best in the match, was consoled by teammates and members of the coaching staff.

Rohit Sharma opines after India’s dramatic win over Pakistan

After India emerged victorious against Pakistan, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma stated that they lacked effort in the batting, while bowlers did a commendable job for them.

“I think we didn’t bat well enough. Halfway through the stage, when we were batting we were 80 for 3 down. You expect guys to stitch the partnership. We were 15-20 runs short. Every run matters on a ground like this. Bowlers came and did the job for us,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

“You need everyone to show up. Little contribution from everyone makes a huge difference. Whoever had ball in hand wanted to contribute for the team,” he added.
