Amit Mishra, a former Indian cricketer, has provided new insights into the well-known clash between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Virat Kohli-Gautam Gambhir’s IPL fight
This incident occurred during a game between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Kohli and LSG’s Naveen-ul-Haq engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a major disagreement. The tension continued after the game during the post-match handshakes, with Kohli and Naveen engaging in a heated exchange.
Gambhir, who was LSG’s mentor at the time, stepped in to support his teammate Naveen. This action sparked a strong reaction from Kohli, leading to a heated exchange between the two players. Members from both teams were involved, making the situation worse.

However, in the IPL 2024, Gambhir and Kohli made amends, concluding their dispute. The two were seen sharing a warm embrace during a match between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), effectively ending any remaining issues regarding their past conflict.
Amit Mishra’s revelation
In a recent podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, the ex-India leg-spinner revealed that it was Gambhir who reached out to Kohli to resolve their differences. Amit noted that Kohli should have taken the lead in apologizing, but he commended Gambhir for his compassionate approach in initiating the reconciliation.
“I saw a good thing about Gautam. Virat Kohli didn’t go towards him, Gautam went towards him. He went and asked, ‘How are you, how’s your family?’ So it was Gautam who ended the feud and not Kohli,” Amit said.
“Gautam showed his big heart at that time. It should have been Kohli who should have gone and ended the feud. He should have gone and said, ‘Gauti bhai, let’s end this,'” he added.
🎙️Amit Mishra : "It was Gautam Gambhir who ended the fued with Virat Kohli by walking up to him & hugged him thereby showing his large heartedness. Although it should've been done by Kohli as he made the issue bigger & dragged it."
