Former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra has unequivocally ruled out the possibility of taking up the head coach position of the Indian cricket team in the near future. Speculation had been rife recently about Nehra potentially succeeding Rahul Dravid at the helm of the national side. However, the veteran pacer has now categorically dismissed these rumours.
Ashish Nehra has no immediate plans for national role
In a candid interview with Sports Tak, Nehra cited family commitments as the primary reason for his decision.
“I have not thought about that. My kids are young. Yes, GG’s kids are also young, But everybody has different thoughts. I am very happy where I am. I am not in the mood to travel for nine months,” Nehra explained.
He also compared himself to his former teammate and newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir, noting that while both have young families, personal priorities can vary.
Weighing the challenges and rewards of coaching
Despite ruling himself out for the present, Nehra acknowledged the complexities and opportunities inherent in the role of a national coach.
“The challenges are always there and it is a great opportunity also. It is a different kind of role compared to IPL. Gautam is always very passionate about the game, and has so much experience. Every coach and captain thinks differently,” Nehra added.

Nehra believes Gambhir’s deep understanding of the game, coupled with his leadership qualities, will be invaluable assets in his new position.
“Gautam has a sharp cricketing brain and knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level. I’m confident he will bring a fresh perspective to the team and inspire the players to achieve great things.” Nehra shared
