Cricket Australia (CA) has seen a record-breaking surge in the sales of tickets from India for the upcoming Australia vs India Test series 2024-25, set to be played for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Notably, the two teams will lock horns in a five-match series after more than a three decade, beginning on November 22. India and Australia share the fiercest rivalry in the cricket world in recent times, courtesy of several mouth-watering encounters between the two teams.
Recent rivalry highlights: India and Australia
The rivalry between the sides has intensified over the past year, highlighted by clashes in ICC events. Australia registered victories in the finals of both the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup 2023, achieving ultimate glory.
However, in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, India had eliminated Australia in the Super Eight stage and went on to win their second T20 World Cup. Historically, in the context of the BGT, India have not lost the trophy since 2016 that included two consecutive series win by defeating Australia in their own backyard.
Record ticket sales
Expecting another crackerjack of a series down under, a large number of Indian fans have booked their seats to witness the spectacle live from the iconic stadiums in Australia as per CA. This has led to a record-breaking six-times increase in the number of tickets bought by fans in India for the upcoming series compared to last season.
