The Lanka Premier League 2024 (LPL), organized by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, is set to run from July 1 to July 21. This franchise cricket tournament will feature five teams competing across multiple venues, including the R. Premadasa Stadium, Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Format and special features
Each team will play the other four teams twice in the league phase, followed by playoffs, culminating in a total of 24 matches. A unique feature of this tournament is the introduction of two “power-blast overs” during each innings, in the 16th and 17th overs, allowing a maximum of four fielders outside the 30-yard circle.

Teams and changes
The participating teams are B-Love Kandy, Dambulla Sixers, Jaffna Kings, Galle Marvels and Colombo Strikers. The Dambulla franchise, initially acquired by Imperial Sports Group and rebranded as Dambulla Thunders, saw significant changes after co-owner Tamim Rahman was arrested on match-fixing charges. The franchise was taken over by Sequoia Consultants via DeSilva Holdings and renamed Dambulla Sixers. Additionally, the Galle Titans were rebranded as Galle Marvels after being acquired by Cricket Marvels LLC, owned by Prem Thakkar.
