With over 70 international centuries to his name, he has broken numerous records and led India to significant victories across formats. Under his captaincy, India achieved the No. 1 ranking in Test cricket and registered memorable series wins in Australia and England.
Shastri also praised Kohli’s leadership qualities, emphasizing how he transformed the Indian team into a formidable unit. “Virat instilled a sense of fearlessness in the team. His aggressive approach and never-say-die attitude inspired his teammates to push their limits. The impact he has had on Indian cricket is immense,” Shastri remarked.

Indian cricket stars resume training for the ODI series against Sri Lanka
India’s cricket powerhouses, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are set to return to action as they kick off training on Monday in preparation for the Sri Lanka ODI. The three-match series is scheduled to commence on August 2.
While the Indian T20I team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, concludes their series with a final match on Tuesday (July 30) in Pallekele, the ODI squad, including Rohit, Virat and promising newcomer Harshit Rana, will commence their training in Colombo.
The training session also marks the return of other key players like Rohit, Virat and Kuldeep Yadav who have been enjoying a well-deserved break following India’s T20 World Cup victory. Additionally, the series will witness the much-awaited comeback of Shreyas Iyer, who last represented India in limited-overs cricket in December 2023 against South Africa.
