Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially announced the comprehensive schedule for the upcoming bilateral series against India, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.
Venue and white ball series details
The series is set to kick off on July 27 with the first T20I, followed closely by the second T20I on July 28 and concluding with the third T20I on July 30. The ODI segment of the series will commence from August 2, with subsequent matches scheduled for August 4 and 7. All T20Is will be hosted at the scenic Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, while the ODI matches will unfold at the illustrious R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Team preparations and recent performances
For Sri Lanka, this series will mark their return to international cricket following their disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage. Under the interim guidance of Sanath Jayasuriya, appointed after Chris Silverwood‘s post-World Cup resignation, Sri Lanka aim to rejuvenate their cricketing fortunes. The series serves as a crucial platform for them to regroup, reassess strategies, and build momentum ahead of future assignments.
On the other hand, The Sri Lanka tour also will mark the first assignment for India’s new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, who recently took over from Rahul Dravid. Dravid had overseen the India squad during their previous bilateral series against Sri Lanka in July 2021 with a second-string side. Gambhir’s tenure as head coach begins with this series, highlighting the start of a new chapter under his leadership.
