Following the BCCI’s announcement of the Indian squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, newly appointed T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav took to social media to express his emotions and gratitude. Yadav, known for his audacious batting and innovative strokeplay, replaces Rohit Sharma, who will continue to lead the ODI side.

Suryakumar Yadav overwhelmed by the opportunity

In an Instagram post, Yadav shared his heartfelt reaction to being named captain.

“Thank you so much for the outpouring love, support and best wishes from you. Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and I am truly grateful. Playing for country is the most special feeling that I will never be able to describe in words,” Surya wrote.

“This new role bring with it, a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm. I hope to keep receiving your support and blessings. All fame reached God, God is great,” he added.

Shubman Gill to be Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy in T20Is

Shubman Gill, who recently led a young Indian team to a 4-1 T20I series triumph in Zimbabwe, has been named vice-captain for both T20I and ODI matches. His impressive performance and leadership skills have earned him this important responsibility.

Following the T20I series, India will face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. This ODI series will see the return of Rohit and Virat Kohli, who will be adding strength to the batting lineup after a brief hiatus.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from the tour after a gruelling season, allowing him time to recover and recharge. Meanwhile, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who served as Rohit’s deputy during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, was initially considered a frontrunner for the captaincy but ultimately did not make the final cut.
