The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the 15-member squad that will represent India in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Women’s Selection Committee has made strategic selections as India prepares to compete in the ninth edition of the prestigious tournament, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3rd to October 20th. Matches will be hosted in Dubai and Sharjah.
India placed in Group A
Notably, India are placed in Group A alongside strong contenders Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The group stage promises to be highly competitive, with each team vying for a spot in the knockout rounds. India will be led by seasoned captain Harmanpreet Kaur, with star opener Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain.
Squad highlights
The squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging talents. Harmanpreet and Mandhana will spearhead the batting lineup, while the all-rounder duties will be handled by Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar. Youngster Shafali Verma, known for her aggressive batting, will be another key player to watch.
Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh add depth to the middle order, with Ghosh also donning the wicketkeeping gloves. Yastika Bhatia has been named as a backup wicketkeeper, subject to fitness clearance. The bowling attack will be led by pace spearhead Renuka Singh Thakur, along with spin options Radha Yadav, Asha Sobhana, and Shreyanka Patil.

Travelling and non-travelling reserves
The selection committee has also named travelling reserves in the squad, which include Uma Chetry (wk), Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor, ensuring that India has adequate cover in case of injuries. Non-travelling reserves Raghvi Bist and Priya Mishra have also been identified for potential call-ups during the tournament.
