The CEAT Cricket Rating Awards 2024 took place in Mumbai on Wednesday (August 21), celebrating the outstanding achievements of cricketers over the past year.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was honoured as the CEAT Men’s International Cricketer of the Year, while Deepti Sharma received accolades as the CEAT Women’s Indian Bowler of the Year.

A stellar year for Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma’s exceptional performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where he led India to victory, played a significant role in him receiving this prestigious award. Expressing his gratitude, Rohit described the recognition as a humbling experience that motivates him to push his limits further on the field. Under his captaincy, India won their second T20 World Cup title, ending an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

Other notable winners

Virat Kohli was named the Men’s ODI Batter of the Year, having scored a remarkable 765 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where India finished as runners-up.

Mohammed Shami clinched the title of Men’s ODI Bowler of the Year, leading the wicket-taking charts in the same tournament with 24 wickets at an impressive average.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was awarded the Men’s Test Batter of the Year after scoring over 712 runs in a five-Test series against England earlier this year. Ravichandran Ashwin received the Men’s Test Bowler of the Year award, becoming the second-fastest bowler to reach 500 Test wickets.

In the women’s category, Smriti Mandhana was named the Women’s Indian Batter of the Year, while Deepti Sharma took home the award for Women’s Indian Bowler of the Year, highlighting her significant contributions to the national team.

Special honours

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his immense contributions to cricket, both as a player and a coach. Additionally, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was recognized with the Award for Excellence in Sports Administration.
