Former Mumbai Indians (MI) bowler Barinder Sran has officially announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket, marking the end of a journey that began in 2011.

The 31-year-old made the announcement on Instagram, where he wrote: “As I officially hang up my cricket boots, I look back at my journey with a heart full of gratitude.”
He added: “Cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences. Fast bowling soon became my lucky charm and opened doors to represent prestigious IPL franchises, ultimately culminating in the highest honor of representing India in 2016.
“Even though my international career was brief, the memories created will be forever cherished. I am eternally grateful to the almighty for getting me the right coaches and management, who have supported me throughout my journey.”

Reflecting on his cricket career
The left-arm fast bowler rose to prominence after being picked up by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 auction. He made his international debut for India under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in January 2016, taking 3 for 56 in Perth against Australia. Overall, he played six ODIs and two T20Is, claiming 13 wickets with best of 4/10 versus Zimbabwe in the shortest format of the game.
Throughout his IPL career, Sran played for several franchises, including MI, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In 24 IPL matches, he grabbed 18 wickets at an economy rate of 8.55.
Despite his limited international career, Sran made a significant impact in domestic cricket. He played 18 first-class matches, 31 List A games, and 48 T20 matches between 2011 and 2021, taking a total of 137 wickets across all formats. His last competitive match was in February 2021, when he represented Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh.
