Saud Shakeel clears the air regarding the declaration

In a press conference, Saud Shakeel addressed the controversy and provided clarity on the situation. Shakeel clarified that the declaration made by Masood was not a sudden decision but was communicated to Rizwan well in advance. He explained that Rizwan was informed approximately 1 to 1.5 hours before the declaration, giving him ample time to adjust his approach.

The declaration aimed to set a target of around 450 runs, and Shakeel’s comments were intended to address any concerns about the timing of the declaration affecting Rizwan’s chance for a maiden Test double century.

“I don’t think the declaration was made hastily as Rizwan bhai was informed well in advance, in fact in prior. 1-1:30 hours earlier he had an idea about it that we will declare at this time and try we reach around 450,” Shakeel explained. His comments aimed to dispel any notion of a rushed decision and emphasized that Rizwan was given prior notice about the declaration.

Despite the declaration controversy, both Rizwan and Shakeel made significant contributions to Pakistan’s innings. Rizwan scored an impressive 171 not out, while Shakeel added 141 runs, helping Pakistan amass a formidable total of 448/6 declared. Their stellar performances have put Pakistan in a strong position, setting up an intriguing contest as the series progresses.
