PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi’s Dubai visit sparks speculation of hybrid model for Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan vs India (PC: X)

Emerging reports indicate that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi recently visited the Dubai Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His visit has fuelled speculation about a potential hybrid model for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

Since the tentative schedule for the Champions Trophy 2025 was released, the tournament has been a hot topic within the cricketing community. While the PCB is keen on hosting the entire event in Pakistan, there are concerns that India might refuse to travel to the neighbouring country due to a lack of government approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

PCB chief’s Dubai visit fuels speculation

Amid this ongoing debate, Naqvi’s visit to Dubai has reignited discussions about a hybrid model for the tournament. The PCB head inspected various facilities at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, including the stands, dressing rooms, hospitality boxes, and other amenities.

However, according to Cricket Pakistan, Naqvi’s visit may not be directly related to the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Instead, he reportedly aims to use Dubai Stadium’s infrastructure as a benchmark for renovating the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The central building of the Gaddafi Stadium has already been demolished, and renovation work is set to begin shortly. Naqvi’s goal is to transform the Gaddafi Stadium into a luxurious venue, addressing previous complaints from fans.

Future of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy

As discussions continue, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has allocated an additional budget for a potential venue shift. However, a final decision has yet to be made regarding the alternative location for the Champions Trophy 2025. The situation remains fluid, with the cricketing world eagerly awaiting further developments.
