Punjab Kings‘ wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has announced his engagement to Shalaka Makeshwar. The 30-year-old cricketer shared the joyous news with his followers on Instagram, revealing that the couple got engaged on Friday, August 8.

In the heartwarming post, Jitesh shared a couple of pictures from engagement ceremony, where he was seen dressed in black pants and a grey shirt, while Shalaka donned a traditional saree. The couple also wore garlands, a customary element in Hindu ceremonies. Both Jitesh and Shalaka hail from Maharashtra, adding a cultural touch to their special day. Jitesh and Shalaka captioned their Instagram post with a heartfelt message:
“In this crazy world, we found our forever on 8.8.8. 8th August 2024,” the couple wrote.
Cricketing fraternity extends best wishes
The announcement was met with an outpouring of love and congratulations from the cricketing community. Several notable cricketers took to social media to congratulate Jitesh on his engagement. India’s new T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, extended his warm wishes, writing, “Bahut bahut badhaiiii bhauuu aur vahini dono ko (Many many congratulations to both brother and sister-in-law).” Ruturaj Gaikwad welcomed Jitesh to the “married club” with a congratulatory message, while Shivam Dube also sent his best wishes to the newlyweds.
The post also received congratulations from other Indian cricketers, including Washington Sundar, Mohsin Khan and former PBKS coach Wasim Jaffer, all of whom wished Jitesh and Shalaka a happy married life.

Who is Shalaka Makeshwar?
Shalaka, now Jitesh’s fiancée, has an impressive academic and professional background. According to her LinkedIn profile, Shalaka holds a B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Prof Ram Meghe College of Engineering and Management, Badnera Rly. She further pursued an M. Tech in VLSI Design from Yashwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE). Professionally, Shalaka has worked as a software engineer at Advent Software Pvt. Limited and as a Senior Test Engineer at Global Logic in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Her Instagram handle is @_shalakashalaka.
Jitesh Sharma’s cricketing journey
Jitesh has represented India in nine T20 Internationals, amassing 100 runs at an impressive strike rate of 147.05. Despite his potential, Jitesh struggled to make a significant impact during the T20I series against Afghanistan earlier this year, followed by a below-par performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Representing PBKS, Jitesh scored 187 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 131.69, a performance that fell short of expectations. However, the Amravati-born cricketer remain hopeful of a strong comeback in the next IPL season, aiming to regain his place in the national team.
