Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan has adopted a nonchalant approach to his potential inclusion in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh.
In an interview with The Indian Express, the young talent expressed a calm demeanour, stating, “I have zero expectation, but I’ll be ready if the opportunity arises. That is what I’ve been doing all along, and I don’t see any reason to change that.”
Sarfaraz’s journey to the Indian Test team has been a long and arduous one. Despite consistently impressive performances in domestic cricket, the right-handed batter had to wait patiently for his big break. However, he believes that this extended wait has been a blessing in disguise.
Sarfaraz Khan’s learning curve
The Mumbai batter made his Test debut earlier this year against England and immediately showcased his talent. His ability to transition seamlessly from domestic cricket to the international stage is a testament to his mental fortitude and skill.
“Some get a break very soon in their career. Some have to wait. In my case, I’m fortunate that it took time because I got to spend a lot of time in domestic cricket and that grind helped me become a better batter, when I made my debut, for the first three deliveries, I was nervous. But after that, I was in control. Whatever I used to do at the domestic level, I was doing the same in Test cricket. I was very clear in my mind. I wasn’t looking at the opposition or the bowler,” Sarfaraz added.

Sarfaraz’s belief in the process
With a plethora of batting options available to the Indian team, Sarfaraz’s chances of making the cut for the Bangladesh series might be slim. But the young cricketer is not letting that deter him. He is focused on the process and is determined to be ready whenever his number is called.
Sarfaraz’s calm and composed demeanour is a refreshing change in the high-pressure world of international cricket. His ability to stay grounded and focus on his game is a quality that will undoubtedly serve him well in the future.
As the Indian team prepares for the Bangladesh series, Sarfaraz will be watching from the sidelines, but he is ready to pounce if given an opportunity. His journey is a testament to the fact that patience and perseverance can pay off in the long run.
