The dynamic cricketer, known for his impactful performances with both bat and ball, is absent from the lineup due to injury, leaving fans and analysts speculating about the implications for the Sri Lankan team.
Absence of Wanindu Hasaranga in Sri Lanka’s playing XI
Hasaranga’s absence is a significant blow for Sri Lanka, as he has been a key player in their recent successes. Known for his leg-spin bowling and aggressive lower-order batting, Hasaranga’s presence adds depth and balance to the team.
In a statement released by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Hasaranga was confirmed to miss the remaining ODI series against India.

“Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the remainder of the ODI series, as the player has suffered an injury to his left hamstring,” SLC said in a statement on X.
“He experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI.
“An MRI performed on the player, following this, confirmed the injury.”
Leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has been added to the Sri Lankan squad as Hasaranga’s replacement. The team will also rely on other spinners, like Dunith Wellalage and Akila Dananjaya, to fill the void left by Hasaranga.
The match at R. Premadasa Stadium promises to be a thrilling contest, with India looking to capitalize on the absence of one of Sri Lanka’s premier players.
