In an exhilarating moment during the ongoing ODI series between Sri Lanka and India, Shivam Dube secured his maiden ODI wicket in a memorable fashion.
The incident took place in the 14th over of the first innings. On the very first ball, Dube dismissed Kusal Mendis for 14 off 31 balls, sending him back to the pavilion with a well-executed LBW appeal.
Shivam Dube’s maiden ODI wicket
The delivery, a good-length ball that angled in and then slightly straightened, proved too much for Mendis. As the batter attempted a forward prod, he was beaten on the outside edge and struck on the back pad. The ball-tracking technology confirmed that the delivery would have hit off and middle stump, cementing the decision made by umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri. Interestingly, Shivam Dube was late in joining the appeal; he only began his appeal after KL Rahul, behind the stumps, had already initiated it. Despite the delayed reaction, the appeal was perfectly timed and accurate.

Dube’s comeback in the 50-over format
Dube’s return to the ODI team has been highly anticipated. He made his ODI debut against the West Indies in November 2019 but played just one match, scoring nine runs, and conceding 68 runs in 47 balls at an economy of 8.68.
His brief stint in international cricket also includes participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where the southpaw has featured in eight matches, amassing 133 runs at a strike rate of 114.65 and an average of 22.16.
