The USA Men’s Senior National Selection Panel has unveiled the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of the Netherlands. This tour marks an important series as the team aims to build on their recent performances and gain valuable experience.
Saurabh Netravalkar misses out
One of the significant absences in the squad is Saurabh Netravalkar, the standout performer from the T20 World Cup. Netravalkar has been granted parental leave following the birth of his first child and will not be available for this tour. Wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous is also on parental leave and will miss the ODI leg of the tour.
Changes from T20 World Cup unit
The selection committee has made several changes to the T20 World Cup squad. Corey Anderson, who had a lackluster performance in the World Cup, has been dropped despite a recent notable performance in the Major League Cricket (MLC). Left-arm spinner Nisarg Patel, who did not play in any World Cup matches, has also been left out, making way for wrist-spinner Yasir Mohammad. Middle-order batsman Milind Kumar has been excluded from the T20I squad due to poor form but retained for the ODI team based on his List A record. Additionally, fast-bowling all-rounder Shadley Van Schalkwyk has been omitted from the T20I squad but included in the ODI lineup for the first time.
New selections
The selectors have shown faith in young talent with the inclusion of opening batsman Sai Teja Mukkamalla in the T20I squad after his consistent performances in the ODI team. Mukkamalla rose to prominence with an unbeaten century against UAE at the age of 19. In a surprising move, 17-year-old Utkarsh Srivastava has been selected for both formats, chosen over more experienced players like Sanjay Krishnamurthy and Ali Sheikh, despite Krishnamurthy’s impressive performance in the MLC.
