West Indian batting all-rounder Kyle Mayers executed an incredible no-look short-arm pull during the Global T20 Canada 2024 clash between Brampton Wolves and Surrey Jaguars on Sunday (August 4). This audacious shot showcased Mayers’ remarkable batting prowess and natural flair.

Kyle Mayers’ audacious shot

Opening the batting for Jaguars after being asked to bat first, Mayers immediately set an aggressive tone for the innings. He wasted no time in asserting his dominance over the bowling attack. On just the second ball of the innings, he faced a short-of-a-length delivery from Jack Jarvis.

Demonstrating his keen eye and powerful stroke play, Mayers effortlessly picked up the delivery and executed a perfectly timed pull shot. The ball soared high and long, clearing the backward square leg boundary with ease for a massive six. This early display of power not only thrilled the crowd but also sent a clear message to the opposition that Jaguars was ready to take the attack to them from the outset.

Early promise and quick dismissal

Following his audacious six, Mayers continued his aggressive start by smashing a boundary off the final ball of the over, giving Jaguars a strong start. However, his promising innings was short-lived, as he was cleaned up for 18 from 12 deliveries in the fourth over. This brief cameo was a microcosm of Mayers’ challenging campaign in the 2024 edition, where he has averaged a mere 15.75 with a strike rate below 99 in five outings.

Surrey Jaguars struggling batting performance

Mayers’ early dismissal foreshadowed another disappointing batting performance from SJG, who were bowled out for a below-par 124 in 19.2 overs. Only skipper Marcus Stoinis managed to score over 30 runs, making 39 off 23 deliveries. The rest of the batting lineup failed to provide significant contributions, leaving SJG with a modest total of 125 to defend.

In reply, the Wolves comfortably chased down the target in the 16th over, losing only four wickets. This comprehensive victory marked Jaguars’ third loss in four completed games, leaving them fifth in the six-team standings with just three points from five matches (one No Result). Jaguars will need to win both their remaining group-stage games to have a chance at qualifying for the playoffs.
