Early wickets trouble the Oval Invincibles
In reply, the hosts struggled in the chase and were soon reduced to 53/3, close to the halfway mark. Their crisis worsened when Matt Short kickstarted the second half of the innings, prompting Curran to come down the track against a full delivery. The left-handed batter got a decent connection but could not evade Santner running to his right from long-on.
Mitchell Santner’s spectacular catch
Santner’s catch on the 54th ball during the second essay was a highlight of the match. With Curran trying to accelerate the run rate, he lofted the ball towards long-on. Santner, sprinting to his right, covered significant ground before diving full length.
He managed to snag the ball inches from the ground, completing a breathtaking catch that left spectators and players in awe. This incredible piece of fielding dismissed Curran, who had only scored two runs off three deliveries, and left the Invincibles reeling at 59/4 after 54 deliveries.
