In a match that showcased the explosive nature of The Hundred, Trent Rockets secured a convincing 22-run victory over London Spirit at Trent Bridge. The highlight of the match was Rashid Khan‘s awe-inspiring bowling performance, which dismantled the Spirit batting lineup with sheer brilliance.
Trent Rockets lay a solid foundation
Batting first, the Rockets got off to a not-so-steady start, with openers Adam Lyth and Tom Banton laying the groundwork. While Lyth was dismissed early for just 4, Banton played a breezy knock of 36. However, it was Alex Hales who stole the show with a blistering innings of 68, setting a platform for the team. Joe Root’s contribution of 32 and cameos from Rovman Powell and Rashid Khan took the Rockets to a respectable total of 166/4.

Rashid Khan’s magical spell
The London Spirit chase got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets. However, Keaton Jennings looked in ominous form, scoring 31 off just 18 balls. But it was Rashid who turned the match on its head. In a devastating spell, he removed the dangerous Jennings, followed by captain Dan Lawrence and the formidable Shimron Hetmyer in quick succession. His leg spin was simply unplayable as he bamboozled the Spirit batters with his variations.
The fall of wickets triggered a collapse as the Spirit batting order crumbled under pressure. While Matt Critchley offered some resistance with a well-made 37, it was too little too late. Rashid returned to claim the wickets of Liam Dawson and Nathan Ellis, finishing with impressive figures of 4/24. The Afghan maestro’s spell proved to be the difference between the two sides as the Spirit were bowled out for 144, handing the Rockets a comfortable victory.
