In a peculiar turn of events during The Hundred 2024 clash, Pakistan’s Usama Mir found himself dismissed in an unusual hit-wicket incident. The match, held at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, saw Manchester Originals face off against Southern Brave.
Usama Mir’s strange hit-wicket dismissal
The bizarre dismissal took place on the last delivery of the Originals’ innings, bowled by Chris Jordan. Attempting to play a shot to a yorker outside off stump, Mir, positioned deep inside his crease, inadvertently struck the top of the stumps with his bat.
In an attempt to drive the ball through the off side, his bat swung back and connected with the stumps instead, dislodging the bails. This strange occurrence left Mir out for 11 runs off seven balls, which included two boundaries. The dismissal was not only unexpected but also a rare sight in cricket, adding a moment of surprise and confusion to the match.

Manchester Originals’ batting performance
Batting first, the Originals set a target of 116/6 in their allotted 100 balls, thanks to crucial contributions from Wayne Madsen and Jamie Overton. Madsen shone with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 43 runs off 37 balls, including four boundaries.
Jamie Overton also made a valuable contribution, scoring 25 off 19 balls, while Sikandar Raza added 13 runs off 16 balls. The Brave’s bowlers were effective in their efforts, with Craig Overton, Tymal Mills and Jordan each taking two wickets, containing the Originals’ total.
Southern Brave’s chase
In response, the Brave chased down the target of 117 with ease, securing a seven-wicket victory with 22 balls to spare. The chase was spearheaded by opener Alex Davies and captain James Vince, both of whom scored impressive 20s. Laurie Evans, batting at number five, top-scored with an unbeaten 25 off 15 balls, guiding the Brave to a comfortable win. Despite the efforts of Originals’ bowlers Tom Hartley (1/16) and Usama (1/10), the Brave batters managed to achieve the target with ease.
This victory propelled Brave to the third position on the points table, underscoring their strong performance in the tournament. Meanwhile, the Originals found themselves at the bottom, having lost all three of their matches thus far.
