Women's T20 World Cup 2024 - Harmanpreet Kaur eyes India mens triumph as inspiration for her team

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has expressed her desire to draw inspiration from the success of the Men in Blue as they pursue their maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title in 2024. With the tournament set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to 20, Harmanpreet is determined to replicate the men’s team’s achievements and bring home the coveted trophy.

Learning from the men’s team

In a recent interview, Harmanpreet highlighted the importance of learning from the men’s team’s journey, particularly their triumphs in major tournaments. “We have been really inspired by the men’s team, the way they won the T20 World Cup this year,” Harmanpreet said at an event in Delhi. She believes that the men’s team’s experiences can provide valuable lessons for the women’s squad as they gear up for the challenges ahead.

The Indian men’s team has enjoyed significant success in recent years, including their historic victory in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and their impressive performances in subsequent tournaments. Harmanpreet emphasized the need for her team to adopt a similar mindset, focusing on teamwork, preparation, and the will to win.

“They worked really hard for this trophy and won some tough matches. We need to learn how they maintained their body language for such matches and how they approached such games. We’re on the same road now and getting ready for our World Cup campaign,” she added.

“The team is working really hard and our attempt will be to give our country and fans another opportunity to celebrate this year.”

Building a strong team culture

Harmanpreet has been vocal about fostering a strong team culture within the women’s squad. She believes that unity and collaboration are crucial for success in high-pressure situations.

“Bilateral series have a different kind of pressure and for World Cups there is pressure as well as expectations and hopes of fans. We are working extremely hard to live up to those expectations, we have been holding camps where all players are working hard.

“We have also worked on the mistakes we made the last time. Now we’re ready with a positive mindset,” the Indian remarked.

The Indian women’s team has made significant strides in recent years, reaching the finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020. However, the elusive title remains a goal for the squad. Harmanpreet’s leadership and experience will play a pivotal role in guiding the team through the tournament.
