Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made significant changes to their squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, dropping experienced all-rounder Rumana Ahmed and bringing in uncapped top-order batter Taj Nehar.

In addition to Rumana’s exclusion, four other players have been dropped from the squad that participated in the 2024 Asia Cup in July. Sobhana Mostary, Shathi Rani, Fahima Khatun and Disha Biswas have been recalled to the team. Biswas, a 20-year-old all-rounder, had previously been selected for the senior T20 World Cup last year but is yet to make her debut.

Fahima Khatun, a seasoned leg-spinner with 84 T20I appearances, has been included in the squad after a recent resurgence in form. Despite being dropped from the team after struggling against India and Australia, Fahima impressed in the Women’s National Cricket League (NCL) T20 competition, taking six wickets in as many matches.

The BCB justified Rumana’s omission, citing her recent lack of aggressive batting. Despite her experience of 87 T20Is, the decision was made to replace her with Nehar, who is expected to bring a more attacking approach to the batting lineup.

The team will captained by Nigar Sultana, who has been a pivotal figure in Bangladesh women’s cricket.

The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup will feature a total of 10 teams, divided into two groups of five. Each team will play against every other team in their group, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stages.
