Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has joined the chorus of praise for Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, lauding his unique bowling action and ability to deceive batters on any pitch. Ali’s admiration for Bumrah is rooted in the latter’s exceptional performances and his uncanny knack for picking up wickets, regardless of the conditions.
Basit Ali on Jasprit Bumrah’s unique bowling action
One of the most striking aspects of Bumrah’s game is his unconventional bowling action. Ali described Bumrah’s action as “awkward” but emphasized that it is precisely this awkwardness that makes him so effective. The unorthodox delivery can catch batters off guard, making it difficult for them to pick up the ball early and react accordingly.
“Even if you play Bumrah on a cement pitch, his action is so awkward he can deceive the batters. That is the truth. That is what I call him Boom Boom. Not the rest of the bowlers. The rest of them depend on their form and rhythm,” Ali said on his YouTube channel.

A master of deception
Ali went on to highlight Bumrah’s deceptive bowling. He compared the Indian spearhead to a magician who can fool the eye with his tricks. Even on a lifeless pitch, Bumrah’s ability to extract bounce and movement can make him a nightmare for batters. His slower deliveries, in particular, are a lethal weapon, often deceiving batters into playing late.
“He comes in takes a wicket and then picks three in his next spell. He is very deceptive, his slower one is accurate. Usually, the deliveries you bowl in white-ball cricket, he picks wickets on such deliveries in the Test format. It is special,” he added.
A consistent performer
Bumrah’s consistent performances over the years have earned him recognition from all over the world. His ability to deliver match-winning spells in both Test and limited-overs cricket has made him an indispensable part of the Indian team.
Bumrah returns to Test cricket
As Bumrah prepares to make his return to Test cricket for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, fans will be eager to see him in action once again. The 30-year-old pacer has a formidable record in Test cricket, having taken 159 wickets in 36 matches. His inclusion in the Indian squad for the first Test is a major boost for the team’s chances of success.
