The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the updated squads for the second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25, scheduled to begin on September 12 in Anantapur. With several key players being called up for India’s Test series against Bangladesh, the Men’s Selection Committee has made significant changes to the participating teams.

Reason why key players miss out in the second round

Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep have all been selected for India’s Test squad ahead of the Bangladesh series and will not participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy matches. Their absence has prompted the selectors to bring in replacements for the second round of the tournament.

Pratham Singh from Railways has been chosen to replace Gill, while Akshay Wadkar and SK Rasheed will step in forRahul and Jurel, respectively. Left-arm spinner Shams Mulani has been brought in to replace Kuldeep, and Aaqib Khan will fill the void left by fast bowler Akash.

Mayank Agarwal to lead India A

Mayank Agarwal, the experienced opener, has been appointed captain of India A for the second round. The updated India A squad features several exciting talents such as Riyan Parag, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube, with the bowling department strengthened by Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.

India B’s Changes: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant miss out

India B also sees key changes, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant have been called up for national duty. Suyash Prabhudessai and Rinku Singh will step in as their replacements. Fast bowler Yash Dayal, who recently earned his maiden national call-up, will miss out on the second round of the Duleep Trophy, but Sarfaraz Khan, despite being named in India’s Test squad, will feature in the next round. Himanshu Mantri (Madhya Pradesh CA) has also been added to the team to bolster their lineup.

Team D adjustments

Axar Patel, who was part of Team D, will now join India’s squad for the Bangladesh Test series. As his replacement, the selectors have named Nishant Sindhu. Further, Tushar Deshpande has been ruled out of the second round due to a niggle, and he will be replaced by Vidwath Kaverappa, who moves from India A to Team D.

Team C remains unchanged

Team C will go into the second round of the Duleep Trophy with no changes to their lineup, as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
