Pakistan’s cricket is set for an exciting change with the launch of the Champions One-Day Cup, starting from September 12 and concluding on September 29.
Champions One-Day Cup: A new era in Pakistan’s domestic cricket
This newly introduced tournament by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) aim to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket, allowing the country’s top players to showcase their skills. Key stars like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan will all be taking part, making it a highly competitive event. The tournament will feature five teams, each filled with Pakistan’s best talent, and is set to provide thrilling cricket action.
Tournament structure and format
The Champions One-Day Cup will follow a round-robin format during the league stage, with a total of 14 matches played at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. Five teams – Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions and Wolves – will compete against each other once, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. After the 10 round-robin matches, the top two teams will face off in the Qualifier on September 24. The third and fourth-placed teams will battle in Eliminator 1 on September 25, followed by Eliminator 2, where the winner of Eliminator 1 takes on the Qualifier loser. The final is scheduled for September 29, where the tournament’s first-ever champion will be crowned.

Teams and their leadership
Each team in the tournament boasts some of Pakistan’s biggest names in cricket, providing an extra edge to the competition. The five participating teams are:
- Dolphins, led by Saud Shakeel.
- Lions, captained by Shaheen Afridi
- Panthers, led by Shadab Khan.
- Stallions, captained by Mohammad Haris.
- Markhors, under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan.
These teams feature a balanced mix of experience and emerging talent, making every match crucial as the squads vie for a spot in the final.
