Toss and decision

Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and, recognizing the track which indeed was a batters’ paradise, opted to have a stick first. This decision proved to be spot-on as their batters smashed every ball left, right and centre, and applied pressure on the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots bowling line-up.

Shimron Hetmyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s batting brilliance on display

The Guyana Amazon Warriors laid a strong foundation in their innings, thanks to a kick start opening partnership between Gurbaz (69 runs off 37 balls) and Kevin Sinclair (17 runs off 11 balls), where Sinclair’s approach was to steady the innings. Gurbaz, in particular, was in exceptional form, smashing the ball to all parts of the ground. His aggressive approach set the tone for the innings, and he quickly put the Patriots’ bowlers on the back foot.

Despite Sinclair’s early dismissal on 25 runs, the Warriors continued to score at a brisk pace. Gurbaz and Hetmyer (91 runs off 39 balls) formed a solid partnership of 116 runs, consolidating the innings and ensuring that the Warriors were in a strong position at the halfway mark. Hetmyer, in particular, played a crucial role, anchoring the innings and providing a steady platform for the lower order.

The lower order of the Warriors’ batting lineup also made valuable contributions. Keemo Paul (38 runs off 14 balls) and Raymon Reifer (14 runs off 5 balls) played aggressive cameos, helping the Warriors accelerate their scoring in the final overs. Their contributions ensured that the Warriors finished their innings with a strong total of 266 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Imran Tahir restricts the Patriots’ chase

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ innings never truly got going. Evin Lewis early dismissal (3 runs off 3 balls) set the tone for a disappointing performance. The Patriots’ batters struggled to find their rhythm against the Warriors’ disciplined bowling attack led by the skipper Imran Tahir.

Andre Fletcher, the Patriots’ captain, fought valiantly but was unable to prevent his team’s collapse. His innings of 81 runs off 33 balls was a lone bright spot in an otherwise disappointing performance from the Patriots’ batters.

The Patriots’ bowlers also struggled to contain the Warriors’ scoring. Despite taking wickets at regular intervals, the Patriots were unable to put the brakes on the Warriors’ momentum. Their inability to restrict the Warriors’ scoring was a significant factor in their defeat.

Guyana Amazon Warriors’ innings was a dominant performance, while the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ innings was a disappointing collapse. The Warriors’ strong batting and disciplined bowling were key factors in their victory. The Patriots struggled to match the Warriors’ intensity and were ultimately outclassed.
