The much-anticipated ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has undergone a significant shift in venue due to political instability in Bangladesh, moving the tournament to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The competition, featuring ten teams, is set to provide intense cricketing action, with Group A consisting of Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while Group B will see Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and newcomers Scotland battle it out. The opening match on October 3 will witness Bangladesh facing Scotland, who will be making their debut in the prestigious tournament.
Tournament format and warm-up matches
Ahead of the official matches, all ten participating teams will engage in warm-up fixtures to prepare for the main event. These practice games, spread across three venues in Dubai from September 28 to October 1, will be 20-over contests, though they will not carry T20I status. Each team is set to play two warm-up matches, providing them with an opportunity to rotate their 15-member squads and test different strategies before the real action begins.
