With the IPL 2025 mega auction looming, the Delhi Capitals (DC) have made a strategic decision to retain wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as their primary pick. This move has effectively put an end to speculation linking Pant with a potential move to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Delhi Capitals’ probable retentions for IPL 2025
Despite his current salary of INR 16 crore, Pant’s earnings are expected to increase significantly due to anticipated changes in the retention guidelines by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Capitals’ decision to retain Pant underscores their commitment to building a strong core team around the talented young cricketer.
As reported by Cricbuzz, the Delhi-based franchise is also set to retain key players like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. On the international front, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs are expected to remain with the Capitals. If the BCCI allows the retention of an uncapped player, wicketkeeper-batter Abhishek Porel is a likely candidate.
While the BCCI had initially planned to release the retention rules by the end of August, there have been delays in the process. However, the final guidelines, including the Right to Match (RTM) provision, are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Cricbuzz also reported that former Indian pacer and 2011 World Cup champion Munaf Patel is poised to join the IPL coaching ranks. While the specific franchise he will coach remains undisclosed, his entry into the league adds another experienced name to the coaching pool.
Other notable coaching returns include Rahul Dravid, who recently took the reins as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Additionally, Punjab Kings announced the appointment of Ricky Ponting, previously the head coach of Delhi Capitals for seven years, as their new head coach.
