On Tuesday (September 3) Bangladesh achieved a significant milestone by defeating Pakistan by six wickets in the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Bangladesh’s historic series win over Pakistan in test
This victory marks Bangladesh’s third Test series win away from home and their second overseas Test series triumph in matches involving more than one game. Their previous series win abroad, which also consisted of multiple matches, was against the West Indies in 2009, where they secured a 2-0 victory.
In 2021, Bangladesh managed a win in a solitary Test match against Zimbabwe in Harare. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim are the only members of the current Bangladesh squad who also participated in the 2009 series against the West Indies. Their experience and leadership have been pivotal in the team’s recent success.
Pakistan’s home test struggles
Pakistan’s home Test record has plunged into a troubling streak of 10 consecutive games without a win. The recent Test series loss to Bangladesh marks a historic low, as it is the first time Pakistan have ever lost a Test series to Bangladesh. This defeat not only highlights a significant downturn in Pakistan’s Test cricket performance but also underscores the growing strength of Bangladesh’s cricketing prowess. The series loss will undoubtedly prompt intense scrutiny and calls for a reassessment of Pakistan’s home Test strategies.
