In a dramatic turn of events, Pakistan has hit a record low in the latest ICC Men’s Test Rankings following a shocking 2-0 series defeat by Bangladesh on home soil. The series outcome has led to significant reshuffling in the rankings, with Pakistan dropping from 6th to 8th position, marking one of their worst performances in recent memory.

Pakistan’s devastating loss to Bangladesh

The clean sweep by Bangladesh has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world. Pakistan, who were initially positioned comfortably in the top half of the rankings, lost the first Test by a staggering 10 wickets, followed by another defeat in the second Test by six wickets. This disastrous home series has severely impacted their standing, with Pakistan now sitting on 1,528 points.

Bangladesh’s impressive performance has propelled them forward, though they remain in 9th place in the ICC Men’s Test Rankings with 1,323 points. However, their victory has significantly boosted their position in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, where they have surged to 4th place with 33 points.

Race to the top position

Australia continues to dominate the Test rankings, holding the top spot with 3,715 points. India follows in 2nd place with 3,108 points, and their upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and Australia, which also known as Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be critical as they seek to challenge Australia for the number one position. Both teams will be looking to secure their dominance, with India’s eyes firmly set on overtaking Australia.

Sri Lanka and the West Indies, despite their recent series losses to England, have climbed the rankings due to Pakistan’s misfortune. Sri Lanka has risen from 7th to 6th place, with 1,501 points, while the Caribbean’s have moved up to 7th place, overtaking Pakistan, with 1,992 points.

This unexpected ranking shift highlights the unpredictability of international cricket, and with Pakistan in disarray, the cricketing landscape continues to evolve. The spotlight is now on Pakistan to regroup and regain their footing in the fiercely competitive Test arena, while Bangladesh celebrates a historic triumph that may signal their emergence as a more formidable force in international cricket
