Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently gave fans a rare glimpse into his thoughts on team dynamics and his relationship with fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja. His conversation with Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel touched upon the often-debated topic of jealousy within the squad, especially in light of the selection challenges that come with having two top-class spinners.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s remark on Ravindra Jadeja

Ashwin was asked if he harbored any feelings of envy towards Ravindra Jadeja, given that India typically fields only one spinner in their overseas Test matches. Jadeja’s consistent inclusion in these matches has occasionally left Ashwin out of the playing XI, prompting speculation about potential rivalry.

In his response, Ashwin was forthright and dismissive of any such feelings. “It’s not Jadeja’s fault that I’m not playing, I do not have the kind of jealousy where I would wish to keep him out just to play myself. The notion of jealousy is a conditioning we need to overcome,” said Ashwin.

The Tamil Nadu-lad also took the opportunity to extol Jadeja’s abilities, emphasizing his respect and admiration for his teammate. “Jadeja is the most talented cricketer I’ve seen; everything about him is natural,” he said.

Ashwin’s praise highlights Jadeja’s remarkable all-round capabilities and his effortless approach to the game, which have earned him a prominent place in the Indian cricketing setup.

The conversation also delved into the differences in their playing styles and personalities. Ashwin acknowledged that while he tends to analyze and overthink aspects of the game, Jadeja operates with a more instinctive and straightforward approach.

I tend to think a lot, whereas he does not. Understanding took time, but now we have a strong working relationship,” the veteran cricketer concluded.

These remarks underscores the development of mutual respect and collaboration between the two spinners, despite their differing methods and perspectives.

Ashwin’s reflections offer a window into the complex dynamics of team sports, where individual skills and personalities must align for collective success. His comments not only clarify his stance on Jadeja but also reinforce the positive and professional relationship that exists within the Indian cricket team.
