Josh Inglis achieved a remarkable milestone in his cricketing career by smashing a sensational 43-ball century during the 2nd T20I of the three-game series against Scotland for Australia.

Josh Inglis: Surpassing Australian legends

Inglis put on an electrifying display of power hitting, striking seven fours and an equal number of sixes. Inglis’ innings was noteworthy as he surpassed the records of Australian greats Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell, who had previously scored T20I centuries off 47 balls each. Inglis’ rapid hundred marked him the fastest century-maker for Australia in T20 internationals.

An explosive knock at Grange Cricket Club against Scotland

In the match at Grange Cricket Club, Edinburgh, Inglis powered his way to 103 runs off just 49 balls. His innings featured seven boundaries and seven maximums. The explosive wicketkeeper-batter came to the crease with Australia struggling at 11/1 and quickly turned the tide in their favor. Inglis forged a crucial 92-run partnership for the third wicket with Cameron Green, who contributed 36 runs. Inglis’ aggressive approach lit up the Edinburgh crowd as he raced to 28 runs from just 12 balls within the powerplay, with Australia reaching 55/2.

Reaching the milestone

Inglis brought up his fifty in just 20 balls and reached his century in the 17th over, taking only 43 deliveries. Both his fifty and century were brought up with sixes, showcasing his dominant hitting. Australia eventually posted a competitive total of 196/4. Inglis was dismissed in the 19th over by Christopher Sole. Attempting to loft a back-of-a-length delivery over the in-field, Inglis was caught at extra cover after the ball struck high on his bat.

A growing T20I career

Inglis’ century was achieved at a strike rate of 210.20, adding another feather to his cap with his elegant and powerful shot-making. Over the course of 23 T20I matches, Inglis has accumulated 600 runs at an average of 31.57, with an impressive strike rate of 161.72. During his innings, he crossed the milestone of 50 fours in T20 internationals.

Before this, Inglis had already registered a T20I century against India. His latest knock brought his tally to four T20 centuries, complemented by 17 fifties in his T20 career. He has now amassed 3,211 runs at an average of over 29, with a superb strike rate exceeding 147. Inglis joins the elite list of Australian batters with multiple T20I centuries, matching Finch (2) and sitting just behind Maxwell, who has five T20I tons to his name.
