In modern-day cricket, the battle for supremacy among the top batters has been a constant talking point. Two names often mentioned in this conversation are India’s Virat Kohli and England’s Joe Root. Both players are part of cricket’s elite “Fab Four” and have continuously broken records and set new benchmarks in the sport. While Root’s consistency and technique have been instrumental for England, Kohli’s flair, aggression, and ability to perform under pressure have made him a fan favorite across the globe.

As the cricketing world continues to debate who holds the edge between the two, statistics often play a central role in the discussion. Root, with his vast experience in the longer format, has consistently been among the top run-scorers in Test cricket, while Kohli’s impact across all three formats, especially in high-pressure situations, remains unmatched.

Dinesh Karthik names his pick

Amid the ongoing debate, former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik recently shared his views on the Kohli vs. Root rivalry. Speaking on Cricbuzz’s show HeyCB with DK, Karthik revealed that while the numbers might slightly favor Root, his heart is set on Kohli. Karthik, who has seen Kohli’s career closely, stated that Kohli’s passion for the big moments and his ability to step up in crucial series make him stand out.

“Numbers will tell you it’s Joe Root, but my heart, the fact that he is someone I’ve seen playing in close quarters for the longest time now, over a decade. I know how he loves playing those big moments and big series. And if somebody asks him questions, he will come to you so strongly that you will be thinking, ‘wow, why did I even ask that question?’ If I were given a question of who would bat for my life, it would be Kohli. No doubt,” Karthik said during the chat.

Karthik’s comments reflect the deep respect and admiration Kohli has garnered from his peers for his unmatched commitment to the game and his ability to thrive under pressure.
