Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant were involved in a comical mix-up that nearly led to Kohli’s run-out on Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur. The incident took place during the third session after Kohli came in at No.5 following Shakib Al Hasan‘s dismissal of Shubman Gill. Pant, who was promoted up the order to No.4, found himself at the center of an awkward exchange that left Kohli scrambling for safety.

India’s strong start turns chaotic

India’s innings began on a high note as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma provided a solid foundation. After Pant was sent in at No.4, Kohli followed at No.5, eager to improve on his performance after struggling in the previous Test. The chaos ensued on the first ball of the 19th over, bowled by Khaled Ahmed. Kohli tapped the slower delivery and took off for a single, but Pant’s hesitation led him to send Kohli back at the last moment, leaving Kohli stranded.

Khaled Ahmed fails to capitalize the oppportunity

Kohli had lost precious time by the moment he turned back, making it an easy opportunity for Khaled Ahmed to dismiss him. Khaled, however, fumbled the collection and missed the stumps in his attempt, allowing Kohli to survive what seemed like a certain dismissal. It was a moment of relief for India, as Khaled’s failure to execute left Kohli safe at the crease.

A warm hug after the chaos

Initially upset by the mix-up, Kohli eventually hugged Pant, showing no hard feelings despite the scare. At that point, Kohli was batting on just two runs, and India were in a strong position at 147 for three in 18.1 overs. Unfortunately, the reprieve didn’t help Pant much, as he was dismissed soon after, contributing only nine runs to the score. Despite the brief tension, the two shared a light moment that highlighted the camaraderie within the team.
