As the T20 Blast 2024 has reached its climax, Quarter Final 2 featured a crucial clash between Sussex and Lancashire. Sussex proved their dominance with a stellar all-round performance, securing a decisive 8-wicket win. This commanding display not only earned them a spot in the semi-finals but also underscored their preparedness for the tournament’s final stages.

Jofra Archer dismisses Saqib Mahmood

During the game, Jofra Archer showed his class and didn’t allow Lancashire batters to settle. He took two wickets including the final one where he cleaned up Saqib Mahmood. The incident took place on the third delivery of the 16th over of Lancashire’s innings. Archer went for a straighter delivery that pitched in and had a hint of slight inswinger. Mahmood went for a glory shot but missed the line completely as the white leather destroyed the stumps.

Clinical bowling display from Sussex

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Sussex’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and effective performance, restricting Lancashire to a modest total of 114 all out in just 15.3 overs. Sussex’s bowlers played a crucial role in dismantling the Lancashire innings.

James Coles was the standout performer, claiming 2 wickets for just 9 runs. He was well-supported by Bradley Currie, who took 2 wickets for 16 runs, Archer with 2 for 20, and Ollie Robinson, who added 2 for 27. Despite a resilient innings from Liam Livingstone, who top-scored with 43 off 35 balls, Lancashire struggled to build momentum and were dismissed well before reaching a competitive total.

James Coles all-round effort takes Sussex home

In response, Sussex chased down the target with ease, finishing at 118/2 in just 14.1 overs. Daniel Hughes played a key role in the chase, scoring a brisk 35 off 22 balls. Harrison Ward contributed with 27 off 18 balls, providing crucial support. Coles, who was named Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling, also contributed with an unbeaten 27 runs.

Sussex’s dominant performance with both bat and ball ensured a comfortable victory, advancing them to the semi-finals of the T20 Blast 2024. The team’s all-round effort highlighted their strength and depth, setting them up as strong contenders for the tournament’s final stages.
