In a thrilling contest between Barbados Royals and Saint Lucia Kings during the 24th match of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 at Guyana’s Providence Stadium, Quinton de Kock produced a moment of brilliance behind the stumps, reminiscent of the legendary MS Dhoni. The South African wicketkeeper’s lightning-fast stumping sent Roston Chase back to the pavilion.
Quinton de Kock’s quick reflexes to see-off Roston Chase
The incident took place in the 14th over of Saint Lucia Kings’ innings when mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana was bowling. On the second ball of the over, Theekshana delivered a dart down the leg side to Chase, who attempted a glance but failed to connect. Chase, momentarily losing his balance, stepped out of his crease. That was all the invitation de Kock needed.
With the precision and speed often associated with the great Dhoni, de Kock whipped off the bails in a flash, catching Chase off guard. Despite his desperate effort to regain his ground, Chase found himself tangled up and even fell to the floor, unable to make it back in time. The third umpire confirmed the dismissal after reviewing the footage, showing Chase clearly short of the crease. He was dismissed for 12 off 10 balls, which included one boundary.

Barbados Royals falls short of the target
Despite the brilliance behind the stumps, Saint Lucia Kings were able to put up a challenging total of 162/3 in their 20 overs. Johnson Charles top-scored with a blistering 53, while Tim Seifert provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 45.
In response, Barbados Royals struggled to keep up with the required run rate, ultimately falling short at 149/8 in their 20 overs. Kadeem Alleyne fought valiantly with a 47-run knock, but the Kings’ bowling attack, led by Alzarri Joseph (2-30), Noor Ahmad (2-20), and David Wiese (2-17), proved too difficult to handle.
Saint Lucia Kings emerged victorious by 13 runs, further solidifying their position in the CPL 2024 points table.
